Senior Johnathan Chen Awarded
Schwarzman Scholarship

Senior Johnathan Chen, a member of the Jerome Fisher Management and Technology Program earning a dual-degree in electrical engineering from Penn Engineering and in economics from the Wharton School, is one of three Penn students who have been awarded Schwarzman Scholarships.

The scholarships fund a year of graduate study leading to a master’s degree in global affairs at China’s Tsinghua University.

At Penn, Chen was the chief electrical engineer of Penn Electric Racing and spearheaded the design of an electric race car that broke the North American acceleration record.

The only undergraduate student to speak at TedxPenn, Chen served as the captain of Penn’s forensic speech and debate team, as well as the president of the engineering dean’s advisory board.

After completing the Schwarzman Scholars Program, he plans to continue to work at Tesla.
