Isabella Lopez
Luke Johnson, a fourth year doctoral candidate in the Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering department is passionate about the intersection of chemical processing and the tech industry.
Originally from Freeport, Bahamas, Luke’s first experience with chemical engineering was at age 17, when he visited an ammonia processing plant in his hometown. Luke became fascinated with the field and his passion for chemical engineering brought him to Philadelphia.
Now, Luke is doing research at the Vojvodic Lab. One of his main areas of focus is on computational research of the structure, design, analysis and properties of MXenes for catalytic reactions of ammonia synthesis — the chemical that sparked his love of engineering.
Needless to say, Luke is pretty busy. But even with a packed schedule of research, pro-bono consulting, and managing his managing his duties as president of the Graduate Student Engineering Group (GSEG), he finds ways to have fun. His favorite past-time? Dance, Dance Revolution (DDR), a beloved video game for anyone who wants to take a break from the lab and break a sweat. If you hear someone stepping their heart out to groovy electronic tunes on campus, it’s probably Luke.
