Mobility21 is Also Making Biking Safer with Eye-tracking technology

Last week, Philadelphia Inquirer reporter Jason Laughlin spoke with Mobility 21 co-director Rahul Mangharam about the research’s group’s efforts to develop a “driver’s license test” for autonomous vehicles.

This week, Mobility21 Research Director Megan Ryerson, a professor in Penn’s schools of Design and Engineering, spoke with him about different project the multidisciplinary team is pursuing: using eye-tracking cameras to make cycling safer. By simultaneously what’s in a cyclist’s field of vision, and what that cyclist is actually looking at while he or she is riding, the team can inform better design decisions when it comes to making bike lanes or signage.
